Sony Laptops Under 300

Sony makes several different models of the VAIO laptop. We used a VAIO VGN-CS190 for this Sony VAIO review. This laptop had a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 processor and 4GB of PC2-6400 memory installed (max), and 800MHZ FSB (Front Side Bus). We were impressed with the power and responsiveness of this laptop. We did find a decent boost in wireless range and speed with the latest 802.11n integrated wireless LAN technology.

During our Sony VAIO review we began to really appreciate the detail that went into the design of this laptop, from not only an ergonomic stand point, but the over all detail of the Sangria Red Sony VAIO VGN-CS190. This fashionable red laptop can use LED lights and a special twelve tone music analyzer which actually transforms your music into a colorful light show. This “light show” is displayed around the trim of the laptop. Now hows that for fun!

The VGN-CS190 has a 14.1” widescreen display and uses the XBRITE-ECO technology which allows the human eye to see razor sharp detail and true to life color from basically any angle. The display runs a maximum resolution 1280 x 800.

Our Sony VAIO review model weighed in at just 5.7 pounds. On the 250GB SATA hard drive was Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit version with Service Pack 1 installed. See each description for complete details and specifications.

If you ever notice that your laptop seems to take longer to read the hard drive than it normally does after restarting it then one possibility is that the laptop had entered a hibernation mode due to a low battery. The laptop will be exiting this at this time so give it a little extra time to restore the previous session.

You should at that point allow the battery to receive a full charge. Keep an eye on how long the battery lasts because this could be the beginning signs of the battery reaching the end of its lifecycle.

If your laptop computer is constantly becoming slower then this will likely not solve your issues. You should look at your system resource usage and view any events which may indicate a hard drive failure. Spyware or rogue applications are the most common causes of system slow down.

Simple maintenance at this point would include a system defrag. If a defrag will not run due to lack of space you should consider backing up your data to DVD or an external hard drive in preparation of freeing up some space on the hard drive. Generally the operating system will require around 15% free space in order to even run the defrag process.

If you ever find that the battery in your laptop will not hold a charge for very long it often means that the battery has self-discharged. If this is the case you can first try to do a full recharge of the battery.

Some laptops may have a power conservation setting disabled or even set to drain. If this is the case try resetting the power conservation. This often applies to slightly older laptops.

Often the reason for not holding a charge for very long is the there is an external device which may be causing the fast drain. Make sure to unplug any external hard drives or other devices and then test to see if the recharge will hold as expected.
