Some of the Gateway laptops I have serviced have been the Tablet PC type of laptop where you can spin around the screen and actually write on the screen with a pen like device called a stylus. Now these are pretty neat because you can actually save what you write, or draw, on the screen as a file. You can save files like .doc or image files like .bmp or whatever else you want. There is also special software that allows you to even completely edit the files when you have saved them, even at a later time.

When you actually need to troubleshoot the hardware is when working on a Gateway Tablet PC becomes very challenging indeed. This however is definitely not one of the more typical DIY computer repairs and should really only be done by a specially trained laptop technician. I actually used to do this in a laptop depot several years back and it can be challenging because the Tablet PC is not your ordinary Gateway laptop. The removal of the LCD assembly is more complicated because of the design which includes a special swivel usually held in place by three larger bolts and several wires.

Even though these where a little harder to dismantle than other laptops it was still enjoyable because of the added challenge. There are many other parts in a Gateway tablet PC such as the magnetic pieces inside the LCD assembly which actually make the ability to write and draw on the screen work. So this definitely adds to the sometimes tricky troubleshooting issues these can produce.

Over the years Gateway laptops have evolved along with the rest of the major computer manufacturers in offering some great features which ultimately benefit the laptop user.

Inside of a laptop computer while the processor is interacting with the RAM (system memory) there is a lot of activity which is similar to a traffic light at a four way intersection. The instructions you give your laptop will pause for several wait cycles in order for the information which is being requested to be located on the hard drive.

Cache memory is what helps to reduce processor wait cycles as cache is extremely fast memory which can only be used in very small amounts. Without system cache the processor would have to rely solely on RAM in order to gather its data requests. Cache helps anticipate what will be asked for next based in part on individual applications and previous requests.

Thanks to cache memory the processor can continue operating at full speed because several of the requested instructions will remain in the cache memory. The anticipation of what will be requested next basically reduced most of the unnecessary wait cycles keeping your laptop fast and responsive.
