When ever you suspect an external hardware device such as a printer, scanner, hard drive, camera, etc. is causing an issue with your laptop computer there are a few basic ideas to keep in mind. Maybe the device is not functioning in harmony with your laptop the way that you believe it should. As you try these ideas they may actually help you zero in on the exact issue simply by getting you thinking from a troubleshooting frame of mind.

Take a look to see if the connections are properly made including cables which link your laptop to the external device. Make sure that each cable is securely connected on both ends and that the power source is turned on. If the device is plugged into a power strip make sure it is powered on as well.

I have fixed many situations for customers where all it took to fix something was to make sure that the device was snugly connected into both the device and the laptop. This often is the case with printers and their USB cables.

Also be sure that the cables are plugged into the proper sockets. I have seen all too often the results of the fact that the modem port and the Ethernet port look an awful lot alike. I have even seen on occasion the integrated Ethernet LAN port on the motherboard being physically damaged due to the owner plugging the phone line into it thinking that it was the modem port and that it just needed a little help fitting in there.

Remember is it feels like you are forcing something then you should stop and think that there may be some real reason for this not going in as you would think it should as in the example above. This can wind up saving you some money in the end.

When you choose to delete a file in the Windows operating system it will normally go into the Recycle Bin. If you find that you have deleted a file which you wish you had not then one of the first things you should try is to check the Recycle Bin as you can find information about deleted files here.

Since deleted files stay in the Recycle Bin until you intentional empty it out it can be considered to be one last chance to decide that you really do want to permanently delete the file.

In here you can search for previously deleted files by their name, original location, date deleted, size, type, and date modified. This can be really helpful if you have not emptied your Recycle Bin for a while and there are lots of files in there.

All you have to do is open the Recycle Bin and choose View and then choose Details so that you can search for what you are looking for. If you find it you can then restore it to its original location by single left clicking it and going to File and then choose Restore. You can select multiple files by holding down the Ctrl key as you click the files.
