Dell Inspiron 5100 Cheap Used Laptops
The Dell Inspiron 5100 was released as a desktop replacement system which was designed to provide a good mix between productivity and multimedia capabilities. Today the Dell Inspiron 5100 makes a good cheap laptop for sale under 200 dollars and we see many of them in great condition quite frequently. The typical configuration will include 512MB of RAM and a maximum amount of system memory is 1GB so this is a decent match for Windows XP Home or Professional Editions.
The specifications of the Inspiron 5100 used laptops include a Pentium 4 processor usually in the 2.4GHz range. This was not the fastest processor at the time of the release of this laptop but it did help to keep the price reasonable with all of the other features which were typically found on this model. Being a 15 inch laptop the weight is a bit more than what you would find on a 14 inch model though. The extra screen size is actually a plus from a viewing standpoint and the Inspiron 5100 actually provided an S-Video output as well hence the focus on multimedia.
For sound there are the standard built-in speakers and 3.5mm audio out as well for external speakers or headphone use on the laptop. The wireless capabilities include 802.11b and there is the standard Ethernet and modem which round out the network and Internet connectivity options. Additional ports include a pair of USB ports and a FireWire port.

As for laptops for $200 and under these days the Dell Inspiron 5100 can give you access to some decent features that are still quite applicable today.
